6 Of 30

6. Register for a couple's cooking class...and live to blog about it.

Well, kiddos, I completed my first item off of my 30 Before 30 list (feel free to email me to tell me how much you like the little logo I made for it)! Wil had been mentioning that he wanted to take a cooking class so he could be a little more helpful to me in the kitchen for the longest time, so I registered for him (and me) for one as a wedding gift.

Hobo Steak, Chasen's Los Angeles
Last Wednesday, we made our way down to the Institute of Culinary Education for every paleo eater's dream cooking class: Signature Dishes From Classic American Steakhouses. Wil was admittedly a little nervous about being responsible for roughly $1000 worth of protein, but he hid his reservations like a pro.

Our instructor gave us a little history lesson about the steakhouses whose recipes we were replicating before setting us free to cook. Wil and I were placed in charge of making the crab cakes, which was great because I love crab, but not great because it was too messy a meal to take pictures throughout the process. I did manage to take a lot of photos of the evening with Instagram (I took so many, I issued an apology on Twitter) and pulled out the DSLR at the end of the night to capture everyone putting the finishing touches on their assignments.

I have to admit, this class was extremely challenging, even for me! I don't know why, but I thought there'd be a little more instruction and a little less cook-this-234235432-pound-steak-your-own-damn-self. Regardless, I had a fun night cooking with my husband and picked up quite a few tricks from the chef over the course of the evening. 1 down, 29 to go!
