Salsa Sunday | 2

Howdy, kiddos! I was dead certain that Wil and I were going to be dancing on here alone for a couple of weeks before we had another couple submit a video, but I was wrong…AGAIN! It’s my pleasure to introduce to you, Melissa Lopez and Richard Herreria. I hope you love their story and their dancing as much as I do.

Meet Mel and Rich.
Melissa (Westchester) and Richard (Bronx) met in a dance class in White Plains, New York and have been dating for close to four years. When they met, Melissa was dating someone else and Rich was recently single. They stayed friends for a year before they started dating and credit the strength in their relationship to long conversations on their way to Mambo Fateegz and late nights chatting about nonsense.

Their friendship grew into something more when the two decided to join a dance competition at the Miami Salsa Congress. They spent many late nights together dancing and laughing preparing for the competition. Their friends noticed the connection and would often question the “friendship” that indeed turned into a courtship as they both finally realized they were meant to be more than just dance partners.

Melissa has joined forced with a mega group of White Plains-based Zumba instructors known as Z8 Fitness. They’re holding a Master Class Fundraiser at Alice E. Grady Elementary School on June 4, 2011 from 3:30-5:00 p.m. Fifty percent of the proceeds will benefit the Blythedale Children's Hospital. For registration information, visit the Z8 Fitness Meetup page OR call (646) 38-ZFIT8 OR email Melissa directly.

And now for the dancing! Mel and Rich decided to dance to "Asi Logramos Nuestro Amor" by El Gran Combo from the album Por Todo Lo Alto (1996). I love the way they move with each other; it's almost like they've been dancing together for five years. If you or any other "real-life" salsa couple you know is interested in submitting a video for "Salsa Sunday," holla at me.
