Hello, Diva Dog Designs

I’m not crafty. Creative, yes, but there’s not a single, solitary crafty bone in my little, baby body. I think that’s why I’m so happy to help all my crafty friends get their businesses up and running through this blog. It makes me feel like I’m knitting or painting or making dog collars, too!

Making dog collars…that’s what our latest sponsor, Diva Dog Designs, has been up to for the past couple of years. Francesca Pou-Kirchmer, my friend and next-door neighbor from high school, has it down to a science. Wanna know how she got into it?! Check out her quick Q&A.

Me: What possessed you to start making dog collars?

Franny: I started taking sewing lessons about 4 years ago and completely fell in love with it! Around the same time, I added a wonderful dog, Bella, to my family. She would go everywhere with me, including my friend’s sewing studio. Then it hit me..."I should combine my love of sewing and my love for Bella!" I started making all kinds of doggie items for her, but collars were my favorite items by far. Bella is a bit of a diva…and that’s how Diva Dog Designs was born.

Me: How did you start your own business?

Franny: My first customers were close friends and family (and an occasional craft show). This past Christmas, my fantastic friend, Jessica, bought a bunch of dog collars as gifts for her clients. As luck would have it, one of those dogs walked into a local pet shop sporting one of my collars and BOOM! It was an instant hit! I am in the process of completing orders for three local pet stores and putting the finishing touches on my own Etsy shop.

Me: Do you make collars for dogs of all shapes and sizes?

Franny: Of course! My collars are being worn dogs as small as a Maltese and as big as Rottweilers. All I need is the size of your dog's neck and you are all set for a handmade collar.

Me: What are your favorite collars to make?

Franny: I honestly love them all. I love matching the fabric to the different color webbing and making a little charm to match. This is my way to get all of my creativity out. I really can sew these collars all day! I think every dog wants little style, so why not be the one to give that to them?!

Me: How can our readers order from you?

So. Freakin’. Cute. She wanted me to add that once you have selected your choice of material, your new collar will be created and shipped within a week. It will even arrive with a little congratulations card from her dogs, Bella and Jasper. Just another one of my cute, crafty friends doing cute, crafty things. Because it’s not awesome enough that she makes dog collars, she’s making my wedding card box, too! I totally wish there was an Etsy store for “craftiness;” I’d buy it out in a heartbeat.

Anyway, Franny is sticking to her mission statement and is offering to “style-out” one lucky reader’s fur baby. Comment to win a matching collar and leash set from Diva Dog Designs! And to the lucky winner, you had BETTER post a picture of your pretty pooch in his/her new accessories on either our Facebook or Twitter profile (or both). Voting (comment on this post to vote) is open until 11:59 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2011. The winner will be announced the following morning. Good luck, dawgz!

My Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, who immigrated from Ireland has been having some difficulties at home. A new fantastic collar would be just what the doctor ordered.

I love these. They are ingenious, ADORABLE and great for any pup.

My pup just received his spa treatment, which means he is prancing all over the house. Now he needs something that looks as stunning as he does.

[Seriously, these are awesome, great idea and beautifully made!]
