My (Old) Funny Valentine

I've never liked Valentine's Day. I honestly don't understand women who dive into pints of Häagen-Dazs if they don't have a special someone in their life to shower them in roses and sonnets on February 14th. To me, it's just another day...seriously. In my dating past, this always freaked out the person I happened to be seeing around this time of year. He'd think I was playing some type of sick joke when I would say "I don't want to go out to dinner on Valentine's Day" or "No, I don't need an obnoxious display of flowers sent to my job on February 14th to prove to me that you like me." My suitors would laugh me off and a few days later, I'd be stuck carrying a 2435897230985-foot tall teddy bear to my car.

Enter Wil: My Aquarian Cutie Pie. Y'all have NO idea how happy I was to learn that his birthday falls on February 15th! Now I have a legitimate reason to never acknowledge Valentine's Day again! I mean, how could I DARE take away from the celebration of the anniversary of his birth, right?! Valentine's Day has been renamed in my calendar--it is now called Wil's Birthday Eve. He's happy. I'm happy. We're happy.

Last year's birthday shenanigans were fantastic! His birthday fell on President's Day (a holiday double whammy!) and we both had off from work. Chicken and waffles at Amy Ruth's and a field trip to BODIES...The Exhibition made for a lovely birthday. The best part was: I didn't have to carry a 2435897230985-foot tall human cadaver home from South Street Seaport. We didn't have off for his birthday this year, but it was just as amazing...mostly because of the food.

Since his birthday fell on a work night (and school night for him) this year, I decided to whip up a spectacular birthday feast for my Sweet, Baby, Honey Love. My Old Man loves him some mac & cheese and that is exactly what he got! Of course I couldn't make just any mac & cheese...it had to be fancy, special occasion mac & cheese. I searched one of my favorite websites, Epicurious.com, and found this bad boy. The only problem with this recipe is that it was missing something else that the Birthday Boy loves: bacon. I threw some in the mix and here's what we ended up with:

Mac & Two Cheeses with Caramelized Shallots

Needless to say, half that dish is GONE! His birthday Paleo Pumpkin Pie (also homemade) is half gone, too! Since I love him so much, I put all thirty-three candles on his pie (and one for good luck). Another Valentine's Day avoided. Another birthday celebrated. Another beautiful day with my Love Cub.

I have the SAME sentiments about Valentine's Day. In fact, I let my husband know that prior to our first V-day together, which was 8 years ago. He went out and got me a ton of gifts, and I got REALLY mad at him. I guess he didn't believe me...but he's never gotten me anything for Valentine's Day ever since :-)

That's so funny, Meg! Wil asked me on Monday if I was SUUUUURE I didn't want to do anything for Valentine's Day...I didn't answer. My silence was just the answer he was looking for. :-)

I LOVE celebrating Valentine's day...the gayest holiday of the year (aside from my gay anniversary)!! I don't think a girl should get depressed over it, but I'm not usually the romantic type. So the excuse to get all dressed up and be a girly girl, and an excuse for Alex to sweep me off my feet.... ::sigh:: love it <3 <3

V-Day is Joe's Birthday so I don't have to celebrate it anyway!

Who is your mom? I don't celebrate Valentine's Day either and I was super excited when Richie's birthday was on the 16th because I could give him all the love I want to give in honor of his bday. Although, I NEVER say no to chocolates!
